M State exhibit features work of regional artists

The community is invited to appreciate the work of four regional artists at the Lake Region Arts Council Consortium exhibit from January 10 to February 10. 24 in the Charles Beck Gallery on the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.

Participating artists include ceramic artist Michael Burgraff (Fergus Falls), mixed media artists Kandace Creel Falcon (Erhard) and Carmen McCullough (Detroit Lakes) and aquatic medium artist Nancy XiaoRong Valentine (Fergus Falls).

The artists, all participants in the LRAC Artist Cohort Program, come from the nine county area served by the Arts Council and have engaged in a 10-month program in which they participated in specialized workshops and have received support for website development, social media, grant writing and collaborative projects. The cohort program started in 2017 with the aim of helping artists identify and work towards their professional goals.

‚ÄúThis is the second time that we are presenting the work of participants from the LRAC cohort. One of the missions of the Charles Beck Gallery is to give emerging artists the opportunity to exhibit, and they are a beautiful group of artists with a wide variety of works, said Lori Charest, teacher in ceramics and curator of the college’s art collection. “They participated in the cohort via Zoom, so now is the perfect time for them to all be together.”

Admission is free and open to the public. There will be an artists reception from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 24 at Legacy Hall.

The Charles Beck Gallery is open during regular campus hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
