Eminem Just Bought a Bored Ape NFT for a Half Million Dollars

The real thin … Monkey-y?

Shady business

The real Slim Shady aka legendary rapper Eminem bought a not-so-real Bored Ape NFT for almost half a million dollars in late December. The rapper, whose legal name is Marshall Mathers, has yet to release a statement on the purchase, but has made the odd lookalike his Twitter profile picture.

Blockchain publication Decrypt reported that Eminem paid one of the Ethereum-based monkeys for 123.45 ETH, or $ 452,000. The NFT, nicknamed “EminApe,” wears a hat similar to the one Mathers is often pictured in and sports what appears to be a gold chain. The art was created by user Grandpa Ape Yaht Club.

“I live in a simulation” says the crypto enthusiast who sold the NFT to Mathers. “Thank you @Eminem for buying my monkey and joining the club!

Collector’s Edition

Digital agency Six praised themselves for setting up the sale to Eminem, according to Decrypt.

And yes, the NFT bears a striking resemblance to the rapper, as does the literal sketch of himself that Eminem bought with his NFT Shady Holdings account, which was set up last month.

Unfortunately, NFTs aren’t the only thing Mathers collects. He’s also racked up a ton of lawsuits and charges over the years, including pointing a gun and yelling “I’m going to kill you!” To a man kissing his ex-wife in 2000. In 2006, no charges were laid after Mathers showed up at his ex’s house and stabbed his then 13-year-old niece in the head with a finger while threatening to kill her. And that’s without going into his decades of homophobic and misogynistic words.

It’s hard to be blown away by such a creepy guy spending a lot of money on a random photo, but we also have questions about his motivations. Why is Eminem taking over NFTs? Why are at least two of them his own lookalikes? And is he planning to make mom’s NFT spaghetti himself?
