Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Art Dubai today announced the list of participating galleries for its 2022 edition, which will be the most comprehensive to date. The show will take place in Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai from March 11-13, 2022, with previews on March 9-10.

As the world’s leading platform for art and artists from the Middle East and the South, the 15th edition of Art Dubai will feature over 100 galleries from over 40 countries in four main sections: Contemporary, Modern, Bawwaba and the new Art section. Dubai Digital. The 2022 fair will include more than 30 new participants and more than 50% of the gallery’s program comes from countries of the South, reaffirming Art Dubai’s position as a leading market for art in this region.

The next edition of the fair marks the start of Digital Dubai Art , an innovative new digital art and NFT section that will provide a comprehensive 360º introduction to this rapidly developing landscape. This new physical section of the fair will feature a selection of digital artwork presented by 17 leading international galleries and platforms, examining the context in which NFTs, cryptocurrency, video art and virtual reality ( VR) have developed since the rise of digital art. In the 1980s. The program will be accompanied by an extensive program of lectures and education, including the 15th edition of World Art Forum and a series of introductory presentations.

Art Dubai 2022 gallery program
Contemporary Dubai Art 2022 will present 77 galleries from 33 countries and welcome 15 exhibitors for the first time in 2022. New participants will include Andréhn-Schiptjenko (Stockholm / Paris), FORO.SPACE (Bogota), Isla Flotante (Buenos Aires), MARUANI MERCIER (Brussels / Knokke / Zaventem), P420 (Bologna), Rhizome (Algiers) and Window Project (Moscow / Tbilisi).
Modern Dubai Art 2022 is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath and will feature solo presentations of museum-quality works by 20th century masters from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. Artists presented in 2022 will include Bibi Zogbé (Agial Art Gallery, Beirut); Mohamed Kacemi (Comptoir des Mines, Marrakech); Aref El Rayess (Sfeir-Semler Gallery, Beirut / Hamburg) and Rabin Mondal (DAG World, New Delhi / Mumbai / New York).
Bawwaba – which means gateway in Arabic and presenting exclusively works produced during the past year or specifically for the fair – will offer ten solo presentations, including six exhibitors for the first time: TARQ (Mumbai), NATURE MORTE (New Delhi) , VIGIL GONZALES (Cusco), Jahmek Contemporary Art (Luanda), Madragoa (Lisbon) and Rele Gallery (Lagos).
After a successful debut in March 2021, Art Dubai is also pleased to confirm the return of its Gallery support program , where accepted galleries only pay a booth fee based on sales. For the 2022 fair, the program is open to galleries formed over the past five years and based or representing artists from Southern countries.
Digital Dubai Art
As the art world continues to adapt and evolve in the digital and NFT realms, new communities are emerging to support these worlds, involving new creators and stakeholders.
Art Dubai Digital will feature a dedicated gallery section curated by Chris Fussner, Web3 Specialist and Director of the Tropical Futures Institute (Cebu, Philippines), which will include major international platforms working with NFTs; contemporary galleries with projects dedicated to digital art and NFT; galleries that have been working with digital art since the 1980s; and NFT e-commerce sites and organizations that turn existing physical art into NFT. Participants, representing a broad geographic base and comprising both traditional galleries and digital platforms, will include Institute , Postmasters , Luminous moments , HORIZONS from so far and AORA , Cyber ​​advantage , Emergeast and NFT Asia .

Alongside this commercial section, Art Dubai is launching Campus Art Dubai 9.0 Blockchain Edition , a new eight-week NFT component within the show’s educational program. Powered by Materia, the course is led by a host of leading local and global experts in the blockchain and NFT art industry, and will support 12 artists from the United Arab Emirates and internationally with a digital background.
In addition, an innovation Cryptographic Media Lab will function as a gathering space for businesses that support these communities, including cryptocurrency platforms, exchanges, and organizations providing the relevant tools to access the digital realm. The program will also be supported by a new conference program , which aims to give visitors more context on digital platforms, inviting guest speakers to further explain the basics of cryptocurrency, digital media, and NFT art.

15th Art Dubai’s edition celebrated World Art Forum , titled “This is the Picture,” will examine the worlds of digital artifacts and crypto economies. Commissioned by Shumon Basar, Global Art Forum 2022 will invite artists, curators, creators, thinkers and technologists to examine a range of topics such as NFT art and curatorial projects, paid games, metaverse myths , the hopes of Web 3.0 and where the legacy institutions could match all of the above.
